What’s a fun fact about you that people don’t know?
I find joy in helping people! I helped an unhoused fellow stay off the streets by signing a lease to an apartment and working with other social support services. This allowed him to come to terms with a difficult upbringing, and work on self-esteem and independence. He no longer admits himself to hospital daily to stay off the streets and no longer feels ill daily. He is very creative, designs fantastic logos and has two kittens to love!
What’s the smartest thing you’ve done in your business?
For twenty years, we have put the employees first. If employees aren’t happy, neither are our clients. We give employees the tools that they need to be successful. We pay for employee education. They have health benefits and a car wash club for unlimited washes. All computers and accounting software are always kept current and up to date to make processing information a snap. If employees are happy and supported, they care about their work and the company identity. Clients feel happy and secure seeing the same accountant year after year. It makes the business stronger. It’s really that simple!
If you could give your younger self ONE piece of advice, what would it be?
Always be ready for something wonderful to happen. Show up fully. Opportunities can happen at any time. The finesse of your approach in handling an opportunity is as important as the opportunity itself.
What do you wish every Client knew about doing business with you?
Our goal is to make each client feel like they are the most important client we’ve got. It’s hard work to put every client first, but we’re happy to do that work. Putting in this effort, not just get the work done, but to make every client feel secure is what makes this work so satisfying for all of us at Debits & Credits. It’s about the relationships!
